ECR workers are 100% staffed by volunteers. Our on-the-ground workers, officers and administrative people, as well as our Board of Directors do not receive any pay or compensation for their work. Your gifts cannot go to a more efficient ministry where the majority of funds received go directly to the projects listed below.
If you are looking for a Christian Organization focused on Kingdom work that will use donations wisely, You have found it at ECR!
ECR has a number of ongoing projects to benefit the people of Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on Vietnam and Cambodia. Our mission is to share the Gospel message to unreached people. Projects are designed to meet the needs of unreached people living in extreme poverty, giving the workers living in these areas the opportunity to not only meet physical needs, but also spiritual needs.
The Churches of Southeast Asia
Many churches are found along dirt paths, reached only by foot or motor bikes. Churches can be found on lakes, while others are in homes and that began with just one family. Some churches have been there for decades, meeting the needs of the Vietnamese people.
New church plants often begin when a member of the family becomes a Christian. ECR, working with churches, trains and equips pastors and teachers to study and understand the Bible, emphasizing the Great Commission, and reaching those who have never heard the gospel message.
ECR encourages and assists local churches to meet needs and to serve others.
Scholarships to College Students
ECR has been active in this program for more than 25 years and to date, over 150 students have graduated from university — some as medical doctors, and others receiving degrees in business, nursing and engineering. This financial assistance is applied directly to their tuition and fees, enabling them to pursue degree programs in local universities. This is overseen by a Vietnamese national who interviews all applicants, processes applications, verifies enrollment in a valid degree program, makes the cash awards prior to the beginning of the school year, and conducts personal follow up with each student throughout the school year.
Elementary School Children
Many elementary school children are unable to attend class because they live too far away from school to get there in time and get back home in time for their work or chores. A simple bicycle solves that problem. We also help with basic school supplies, including a notebook and pencil. Many families cannot afford this most basic item, and we provide composition notebooks and pencils to children in rural areas.
Orphan and Street Children of Vietnam
During the last 20 years the remarkable socio-economic development in Vietnam has put new pressures on families. As the gap between the rich and the poor continues to widen, a growing number of children have been living on the street, children who are abused, abandoned, and neglected.
The church and Christian families in Vietnam are encouraged to take an active role in this great need by bringing neglected children into their homes as an alternative to the children living on the street or in government orphanages. In this family model, the children are brought into the home where not only are their basic needs of food and clothing met, but also their emotional and spiritual needs in a loving, secure environment.
For example, ECR is assisting a pilot program that was initiated by a local church outside of Saigon. ECR is coming beside a family who is part of this program and have taken eight boys off the street. These boys range from seven to eighteen years of age. Their physical, medical, and educational needs are met in a loving environment. Most importantly, these children are exposed to the Gospel message and have heard the good news that God loves them and has a good plan for their lives.
ECR is encouraging more families and churches to do likewise, and hopes to expand this initiative to other areas, bringing many more street kids into loving homes.
“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” James 1:27
Ministry to the Blind and their Families
Visually impaired Vietnamese mothers and fathers have no jobs and often beg or sell lottery tickets on the street to provide for their families. These parents desperately want to send their children to school so that their children will have a better life. ECR is able to offer financial assistance in the form of Scholarships paid directly to their tuition and fees, enabling these children of the blind to go to school.
Distribution of Audio Bibles and Braille Bibles to the Blind
Books are distributed to the blind so that they may hear and read the Word. A ministry in Vietnam has provided Braille books and mp3 players with the books of the Bible to blind members of the community so that they may hear and read the Word. As a result, many are coming to know the one true God and have come to know Christ as Savior. One man explains, “I know my circumstances will not change here on earth, but my heart has.”
ECR provides help by sharing the costs of these materials.
The Vietnamese of Cambodia
The Vietnamese are known as the most vulnerable people group in Cambodia. They are a people with no country, and no identity papers, which means no owning property, no jobs, and, for many, no school. Especially vulnerable are the children, sold at younger and younger ages to meet the demands of the sex trafficking industry.
ECR works with ministries on the ground in Cambodia to share the gospel with these Vietnamese families.
